To answer your question I should first of all say, that all mapping coordinates are taken from the base object that you pick to distribute the fur on. So make sure that your base object has proper UVW mapping applied. Also remember that under the mapping section of the Vray fur there is a W mapping coordinate that can be modified. This is an offset along the hair strands, So from the root to the tip (0.0 is the strand base, and 1.0 is the tip). As I said U and V coordinates are still taken from the base object though :). Hope This helps!
